Pumping Station SCADA with a Four-Screen Control Room Display

Equipment operation, station layout, equipment status and CCTV combined into a four-screen display with PowerScada, so the duty operator can see the whole station from the control room.

CHALLENGE

Challenge

A pumping station is full of equipment: pumps, fuel pumps, generators and trash rakes. The duty operators used to jump between several screens, with water levels on one, equipment on another and the CCTV on a separate system altogether. When something happened, it was hard to judge the situation quickly.

SOLUTION

Solution

We built three screens in the SCADA system, covering equipment operation, the station layout and equipment status, then brought the CCTV feeds in so all four screens display at once. The operation screen switches between local and remote control and starts or stops equipment directly. The station layout is drawn as a cross-section showing the levels of the wet well, runoff channel and fuel tank, so you can see at a glance where the water is.

EQUIPMENT

Equipment and Technology

  • SCADA system
  • PLC communication integration
  • CCTV video integration
  • Water level and fuel level sensors

RESULTS

Results

  • Pumps, generators and trash rakes monitored in one place
  • Four screens updated in sync
  • Real-time water and fuel level trends

Operators now complete inspection rounds and operate equipment from the control room. When something goes wrong, they trace the cause from the alarm log and historical trends instead of walking out to the site and digging through paper records.
