Biogas Treatment and Recovery Monitoring

The entire biogas chain, from desulfurization and storage to use in the boiler and generator, was brought into the same PowerScada system and monitored from the control room together with the water treatment.

Biogas Treatment and Recovery Monitoring

CHALLENGE

Challenge

Biogas from the anaerobic digester has to be desulfurized and stored before it is sent to the boiler or generator, with a long chain of valves and safety interlocks in between. The customer wanted it in the same system as the wastewater treatment, without adding another computer.

SOLUTION

Solution

We built one screen for the biogas treatment unit and one for the biogas utilization system, both inside the same PowerScada project. Pressure and flow at each stage, valve positions and generator operating data are all displayed, and the system shuts down automatically and raises an alarm when an interlock condition is not met.

EQUIPMENT

Equipment and Technology

  • SCADA system
  • Biogas flow and pressure meters
  • Generator set communication
  • PLC communication integration

RESULTS

Results

  • Full biogas treatment and utilization chain monitored
  • Same platform as the water treatment system
  • Live pressure and flow display

Biogas and water treatment are now monitored from the same control room, which saves inspection manpower, and every safety interlock action is recorded for review.
