Custom Signal Conversion Board: Resistance to Voltage
Off-the-shelf converter modules did not match the specification, so we designed our own board that turns a resistance change into a 0 to 10 V signal the PLC can read.

CHALLENGE
Challenge
The sensor on site outputs a change in resistance, which the PLC cannot read directly. Commercial converter modules either did not match the specification or were too expensive. So we built our own board that uses a constant current source with the customer's float-switch resistor to produce a standard 0 to 10 V signal for the PLC.
SOLUTION
Solution
We designed a resistance-to-voltage conversion board with a standard 0 to 10 V output, a power indicator and a calibration potentiometer for fine-tuning the current ratio, secured with four mounting screws inside the control panel.
EQUIPMENT
Equipment and Technology
- Custom PCB
- 0 to 10 V analog output
- DC 24 V supply
- PLC analog input module
RESULTS
Results
- Designed and prototyped in-house
- Standard 0 to 10 V output
- 24 V supply, DIN-rail mounting
The signal interface problem was solved at low cost, while keeping the flexibility to adjust it later.
